Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel is the pseudonym of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. She was a French modernist designer and she revolutionised women's clothing. Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883. Her childhood was marked by poverty and uncertainty. When she was 12, her mother died and her father sent his three daughters, including Gabrielle, to a convent in Correze, At 18 years old she left the convent and moved to Moulins. In 1913, with a financial aid from a lover Arthur Capel, Chanel opened a boutique selling fashionable clothes in Beauville. In 1919, Chanel opened her first boutique, at the heart of the most fashionable area of Paris. In the post-war period, she left the need for a revolution in women's clothes. She liberated women from the bondage of the corset and encouraged a casual but elegant range of clothes. Chanel was an innovator in many aspects of fashion, She also developed a new kind of jewels.
